About Andrea Arostegui

Destination Wedding Photographer Andrea Arostegui

Six years ago –

Six years ago sounds like a long time. I was 22. I was a meteorology and mass communications student at UM. And six years ago I shot my first wedding.

I went to a small private Christian school in Homestead, FL where one of the largest graduating classes happened to be my class of 34 students in 2006 and where everybody knows everyone. So when my friends started getting married six years ago guess who they chose to have shoot their wedding?

I have photographed almost half of my classmates weddings, maternity, family and kids sessions and nothing has brought me greater joy than that. I no longer remember what it’s like to be a guest at my own friends’ weddings and I don’t mind that one bit. And that’s how I fell in love with what I do.

Favorite thing to shoot: I’m stuck in between two things: rings and the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time. Rings apparently are my forte; I love finding a way to place them and shoot them in the most intricate ways. Meanwhile the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the very first time always makes me giddy.

What I do when I’m not shooting: work out. I became a fitness junkie thanks to wedding photography and thanks to my second shooter who started training me because I would always complain that I felt like I got run over by a train after a full weekend of shooting. You can find me at the gym, crossfit, and even a few other classes. I love to cook. I meal prep for myself, and a few other friends so if you follow me on my personal instagram you’ll see a lot of photos of food. I’m obviously a weather aficionado and a closet storm chaser – hence the meteorology major so I love shooting storms and sunsets and all things weather and nature related. And I’m also a bit of a nerd/handyman – I can build a website and walls all in one day.

Favorite part of a wedding day: I actually love the running around, intense feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen next. You always have to be 5 steps ahead of the game and be able to stay on your toes. It’s exhausting but exhilirating. Going home and then seeing the photographs would definitely have to be my most favorite part of the day though.

Fun Facts: I’m highly allergic to ants; I carry an epi-pen with me everywhere I go including weddings. I’m a major foodie; I’ll eat anything and everything you put in front of me. I even started a food blog to share recipes and yummy photos with everyone ( fixingthedish.com | @fixing_the_dish ) I love to travel; especially if there’s food and my girl friends involved. I’m addicted to Social Media and I’m an open book; my clients follow me and it helped my business grow, so yes, I share a lot of stuff  with everyone.
