It’s crazy to see how many businesses use Social Media as a tool and way to target their ideal clients and advertise their services. As a photographer, one of the first things I tell my friends, clients, vendors I work with is not to let social media consume all their time that they could be using to do other things.
When I was shooting weddings, I used my Instagram account to show off pretty photos and build a portfolio not knowing the impact it could have on targeting my ideal client and the type of brides I wanted to attract. Fast forward to 2019 and a study I had to do when graduating with my degree and I realized how to make the best out of social media. BUT, it almost became like a second job, I was on it 24/7 and I started burning myself out and COMPARING. Comparing everyone’s highlight reels to my Behind the Scenes and thinking I wasn’t good enough.
The best social media strategy I give people I work with and that I’ve learned through the years from amazing influencers like Jasmine Star is to take one day out of the month and try to create most of your content especially for holidays that are coming up or special things I want to feature. Every week on Saturdays, I go over the things I want to share the upcoming week, write my captions and use an Instagram scheduling app to plan out the look of my grid and when or what time to post.
Right now I’m in between two apps that I love but one that I’m leaning towards to staying with for good. If you’ve never looked into PLANN or Planoly this will be a game changer for you and your business.
I personally use PLANN but I love the features of Planoly. I love the fact that you can enable Auto Posts (if you have a business account on IG) which is perfect for those months where I want to take a break from Social Media but I want to keep my posts consistent. You can also schedule your IG Stories, although this isn’t something I use because I share behind the scenes on my IG stories. They also have the option of viewing a calendar system and on the computer it’s just beautiful and easy.
I use PLANN because I currently don’t have my IG account as a business account, it was used as a personal account that has morphed into both, so I wasn’t using the Auto Post feature. The PLANN account I have is free right now and I’m really just using it to see what my future posts will look like before I post and to save my captions and hashtags. This makes posting on Instagram 75% easier for me and I’m not sucked into hours of mindless scrolling AND comparing.
I haven’t found the need to fully upgrade or to start using all the other features from Planoly BUT I still highly recommend every business to use one so that your grid is aesthetically pleasing and to make your life easier!
